Visit from Roger Kemp

We were very pleased to welcome Roger Kemp, JDC Chairman to Junes’ club night. Roger gave a speech outlining the status of the club and although members were increasing annually, member retention was a problem and that more should be done to attract younger individuals to sign up. He also advised that the JDC office in Luton had been sold in favour of the staff there mainly working from home. He ended with a Q&A session from the audience.

Following Roger, we welcomed Des Shillingford and Frank Ferguson, Chairman and Secretary respectively of the Chelmsford branch of the Institute of Advanced Motorists. Frank opened by explaining the aims of the Institute and offered words of advice, Des spoke of his experiences as an Observer. The cost of an advanced driver’s course is £175 which covers observations (lessons) a mock test and the IAM (Roadsmart) test. These are usually carried out by ex or currently serving police officers.

It’s good to see attendance at the monthly club meetings increasing steadily over the year. This is reflected in the Raffle takings that is now around £75, the Committee would like to thank all that contributed for their generosity.

Area Day at RHS Hyde Hall was held on 2nd July, and from the feedback provided was a resounding success with some 4,000 members of the public turning out to see the display.

Although mentioned in the article in this Eventer, we would like to thank once again all those who attended, specially to members who helped out on the day.
