The Crown Funday

On Sunday 6th August our monthly meeting venue, The Crown, arranged a charity event where money was raised from stall holders, bouncy castle, donkey rides, a raffle and several children’s games.

The local fire service brought along one of their fire tenders for people to look over and ask questions.

Previously Howard, our Chairman, came up with the idea that a couple of us could display our Classic Jaguars and The Crown would sell raffle tickets where two lucky winners would be given a ride in the cars. Both being four door saloons we could take up to four passengers.

Howard offered his 1963 MkII Jaguar and I offered my 1960 MkIX Jaguar.

Throughout the day the weather was a complete change from the previous day and sun shone the whole time. Many people came and spoke to us asking questions regarding the cars and gave us stories of cars their dad’s owned.

At 4pm after the raffle was drawn we had our winners and decided on a route to Maldon, down the High Street and back to Sandon, a trip of around 20 miles.

We plan to support The Crown on other charity events in the future when we are available and hopefully get a couple more cars to display.

Cars loaded and ready to go
